You must first connect to a LearnSpace session in order to moderate that session's display. See Joining a LearnSpace Session for details.
Moderating the shared display
A LearnSpace session can run either with or without a moderator. Only one user can be moderator at a time. The moderator has the ability to control how other participants share with window policies. This control structure is beneficial in situations (such as a presentation) where participants need to be limited in how they can access the shared display space.
Note that participants do not need to be moderating in order to show content on the shared display. They simply need to be allowed to share by the user acting as moderator (if any).
Moderate options
Only one user can be the moderator of the display at a time. To become moderator, click the "Moderate" tab and click the "Start Moderating" button if it appears. If the Moderate tab is not visible, you can show it using the tab labeled "+". If you have problems becoming moderator of the display, see Becoming moderator for details.
Once you are moderating the display, you can select the mode which dictates the way people are allowed to share (also known as a window policy). The different modes are described below:
- Exclusive: Only you can share content. Everyone else will be denied access to share content. Note that if you switch to this mode and another user has a window shared, that window will remain on the display until it is removed. This mode is useful while giving a presentation.
- Restricted: You can share and move windows as you please. Everyone else can share, but shared windows will only appear on the shelf until you explicitly move them to a location onto a shared display. This allows you to let others share while retaining tight control over what appears on the shared display(s). This mode is well suited to sharing during parts of a presentation.
- Individual: This mode allows everybody to share, but everyone except the moderator can only move their own windows on the display.
- Open: This mode imposes no restrictions. Everybody can share, and everyone is free to move any window on the display. The difference between this mode and not having a moderator that you have exclusive control over the window policy. While you can change the policy at any time, no one else can become moderator or change the policy unless you release moderator control.
All other users will use the "Share" tab or the "Show" while you are moderating.
Blanking the shared display
You can blank all the screens of the shared display by using the "Blank Screens" checkbox. Blanking the screens causes them to temporarily be black so nothing is visible.
Releasing control
If you need to have someone else moderate, press the "Stop Moderating" button. This will allow someone else to become moderator or allow all users to continue sharing without any moderation structure.
